Before You Were Born

In Amman, Jordan, Azza and Mohammed are busy mapping out the future of their unborn child. Two months after their son's birth, the Arab Spring erupts, bringing a high degree of uncertainty about what the future might hold.

Something more bitter than what Azza, as a filmmaker, has already witnessed in Palestine? She finds herself making hard decisions on her child's behalf.

biography

Azza El-Hassan was born to Palestinian parents in Amman, Jordan in 1971. In 1989, she left to study sociology and cinema at the University of Glasgow, to finally receive a Masters in Television Documentary at Goldsmith College (University of London) in 1994. She returned to Palestine in 1996 and has made a number of films on the life of Palestinians under the Israeli occupation, receiving numerous prizes for her work.
