The film takes place in Lebanon and is structured as a narration based on interviews made with Lebanese artists and intellectuals shortly after the ceasefire, following the summer 2006 war between Israel and Lebanon.

Men and women from various generations and religions deliver high-strung unusually emotional and sincere testimonies of what they had just experienced. The protagonists one after another speak freely, giving an objective assessment of the situation. From one witness to the other, we perceive the diversity of opinion typical of Lebanese society, especially its fears and hopes. Through simple and intimate words, they show the deep divide the war has provoked among themselves and the human dimension of the subject.

The political aspects are not eluded. They are scrutinized through an often subtle analysis, the very opposite of stereotypes. Through the images of the film, we discover a country and its people, which the camera followed from North to South...

biography

Anouar Brahem was born in Tunis in 1957. As an oud player, he is today considered one of the most atypical and talented creators of Arab and jazz music and one of the rare composers able to invent music which is at the same time deeply rooted in an ancestral culture, highly sophisticated and eminently contemporary in its universalistic ambition. He has been working since 1990 with the prestigious ECM label where all his recordings have been published.  His albums, including such titles as "Thimar," "Astrakan cafe," "Le Pas du Chat noir," " Le voyage de Sahar", are unanimously recognized by international audiences and critics.
Anouar Brahem has always maintained close ties with the cinema. He signed the original sound tracks of many films amongst the most remarkable of Tunisian cinema, such as Halfaouin by Ferid Boughedir, Les silences du palais and La saison des hommes by Moufida Tlatli, Sabots en Or and Bezness by Nouri Bouzid. Mots d'après la guerre is his debut film.
