Ahlaam

As part of the American "Shock and Awe" campaign, a Baghdad Mental Hospital is bombed, resulting in the death of many of the patients and staff. To escape their fear and confusion many patients have fled into the chaos that is now engulfing Baghdad. Among them, Ahlaam, confined to the mental institute after witnessing the violent arrest of her groom on their wedding day.

Young doctor Mehdi, the only doctor to survive the bombing, with the help of nurses, and another patient Ali, begins the dangerous task of searching Baghdad for missing patients.

biography

Mohamed Al-Daradji was born in Baghdad in 1978. At the age of 15 he studied Theatre Directing at the Fine Arts Institute in Baghdad. When he moved to Europe he continued his studies at the Media Academy in Hilversum, Holland. He specialized in camera and after completing his course he worked for a variety of media production companies as a cameraman. Companies such as Castel Media and RTV Oost employed him for 3 years.  His passion for cinema led him to join a Master of Arts Course in Cinematography at Leeds Metropolitan University School of Art (Former Northern Film School). Mohamed has been the Director of Photography for nine short films, a music video and two commercials, one of which (Comfort Hospital) obtained the prestigious Kodak Commercial Award. He directed his first feature length drama film Ahlaam and two short films and is now working to finish a feature length documentary Shooting in Iraq, as well as he is preparing a second feature film.
